One of my best friends offered to bring me breakfast at work and asked what I would like – I said I’d love a bacon, egg and cheese croissant thinking I’d get the usual greasy fast food. He shows up with this droolworthy croissant breakfast sandwich and a side of roasted herb potatoes from George Artisan Bakery & Bistro and it was amazing. Thick, crispy bacon on a huge fresh toasted croissant with cheddar cheese and a slab of scrambled eggs so large it looked like an omelet. The potatoes were roasted with fresh rosemary and other herbs and by the time I was finished with breakfast I knew I wouldn’t be needing any lunch.
Since that introduction to George Artisan Bakery & Bistro I’ve tried them out a couple more times, you know just to be sure, and they never disappoint. Their extensive menu covers all the breakfast favorites, weekend brunch, lunch, dinner and an espresso bar menu as well. There is a wide variety of salads available to choose from including kale ceasar, summer peach, roasted beet and kale and quinoa with lots of options you can add like grilled or crispy chicken, salmon, shrimp, steak and portobello mushrooms. Signature salads include grilled seafood, grilled chicken cobb, tuna nicoise and chicken salad. All are loaded with goodies and are almost too pretty to eat.
Lunch specialties include all the typical favorites served on delicious fresh artisan breads like lobster roll, burger, fish sandwich or crispy chicken on brioche, and steak sandwich, grilled vegetables or grilled chicken on ciabatta. All sandwiches are served with rosemary sea salt fries or a side salad and there are other sides available such as sauteed spinach or mushrooms.
Appetizers on the dinner menu include some unique options like grilled octopus, roasted bone marrow, pear gorgonzola rosemary tart (which I highly recommend), Prince Edward Island mussels, beef or tuna carpaccio and George fries that are served with andouille sausage, cremini mushrooms, parmesan and feta cheese. Main dish options for dinner include several sandwich choices along with grilled salmon, steak fries, shrimp and grits, lamb chops, and roasted chicken. While you’re there be sure to also check out their extensive wine list and cocktail menu.
