Rising Appalachia brings to the stage a collection of sounds, stories, and songs steeped in tradition and a devotion to world culture. Intertwining a deep reverence for folk music and a passion for justice, they have made it their life’s work to sing songs that speak to something ancient yet surging with relevance.
Whether playing at Red Rocks or in rail cars, at Italian street fairs or to Bulgarian herbalists, this fiercely independent band has blazed a unique and colorful path across the globe. 11 years into their movement, Rising Appalachia believes that the roots of all these old songs are vital to our ever evolving soundscape.
Led by the collective voice of sisters Leah and Chloe, and joined by their beloved band – percussionist Biko Casini and bassist/guitarist David Brown – Rising Appalachia is a melting pot of folk music simplicity, textured songwriting, and those bloodline harmonies that only siblings can pull off. Listen for a tapestry of song, clawhammer banjo tunes, fiddle, double bass, acoustic guitar, djembe, barra, bodhran, spoken word, and a wealth of musical layering that will leave you called to action and lulled into rhythmic dance simultaneously. It is both genre bending and familiar at the same time.
Proudly born and raised in the concrete jungle of Atlanta, Georgia, sharpening their instincts in the mountains of Appalachia, and fine tuning their soul on the streets of New Orleans they have crafted a 6-album career from the dusts of their passion. In 2015 Rising Appalachia founded the Slow Music Movement, to help maintain an independent musical spirit in the face of such a fast-paced world. They are creatively committed to keeping their work accessible at the local street level as well as expanding to larger audiences abroad, and have continued to maintain autonomy by self- managing, recording, producing and creating, and directing their work. They are greatly honored to do the work that they do.
“Music is the tool with which we wield political prowess. Melody for the Roots of each of us…spreading song and sound around the globe. Music has become our script for vision- not just for aural pleasure, not just for hobby, but now as a means to connect and create in ways that we aren’t taught by mainstream culture. We are building community and tackling social injustice through melody, making the stage reach out with wide arms to gather this great family. It has taken on its own personality, carrying us all along the journey. Heres to poetic observations, social change, lyrical messages, political focus, symphonic coercing, ferocious bantering, bicycles and train tracks, primal will, fresh air, harmony, flow, and beautiful noise.”- Leah Song.
“HuDost makes music for the sacred and the profane…driven by Sommer’s lush expressive alto and Hines’ skilled strumming and electric guitar licks…as sacred as a church service, without the identifiers which can separate and shame non-believers.” – Kristi Wooten (PurePop, Rolling Stone, Newsweek)
Electric-Folk, World-Rock ensemble, HuDost, just released a new album on November 19th that reached #4 in the Canadian National Folk/Roots/Blues Chart for March, 2022 and #9 in the US Folk Radio Charts for January, 2022.
HuDost’s last album received rave reviews and as an independent release reached #24 in the BILLBOARD SALES CHARTS for Folk/Americana and winning The Independent Music Award for Social Action Song. In 2020 they received two of the ‘Best of Nashville’ awards. They have been fortunate to have incredible performance opportunities throughout the years and have toured internationally since 2006 collaborating with wild, astonishing, and respected artists, musicians, dancers, and activists. HuDost are committed advocates/activists for ONE (non-profit organization).
Dr. Samarpan Anand Buchalter is a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine, a 500hr certified yoga teacher trained in the Indian Himalayan Mountains, and an indigenous healthcare advocate who has worked in the Amazon Rainforest intermittently for almost a decade. After years of human rights advocacy, he has the great honor of being nominated as a healthcare ambassador for the isolated Yanomami People of the Upper Rio Negro region of Brazil.
His transformational journey began after breaking his back twice from competitive mixed martial arts and barely surviving a near death experience in the form of a traumatic brain injury shortly afterward. The depths of disability he experienced forced him onto a path of radical immersion into holistic healing modalities, taking him to every corner of the globe in search of a deeper understanding of what it truly means to heal. After over a decade of chronic debilitating pain, he combined his knowledge of chiropractic rehabilitative principles with the practice of yoga and truly began to heal on every level, thus leading him to create ChiroYoga: the practice in which healing and movement unite.
Dr. Buchalter is now traveling the world teaching his methods and developing sustainable healthcare initiatives aimed at addressing the effects of colonization on isolated indigenous cultures such as malnutrition, musculoskeletal pain, and other ailments now plaguing remote villages. His work shines light on the unprecedented atrocities that have been perpetuated against the Amazon and its inhabitants while serving as a cultural bridge between worlds, to be a messenger for those whose voices usually never leave the forest.
Brynnevere is a multi-faceted, full-spectrum ray of “Soulshine” on a mission to revitalize the heart of Humanity via music, art, yoga, community-building and dance. Inspired by her inner journey from depression to bliss, she writes songs and hosts events with the intention to uplift her community with empowering messages of acceptance, playfulness and inner peace.
Her musical performance is stacked with meaningful stories told poetically over live-loops of chord progressions, beat-boxing, and soul-nourishing mantras. Powerful messages woven in layers of harmony with impressive vocal agility have inspired her audiences to cry tears of release. With a voice described as “Soulful, powerful, and healing,” Listeners have reported their experiences as “this is exactly what the world needs to hear,” and “her music hugged me.”
On the movement side of things, Brynnevere took her 200 hour yoga teacher training with CorePower Yoga in 2015 and has been teaching ever since. She fell in love with Ecstatic Dance while living in Los Angeles and began hosting ecstatic dance in Pensacola in 2018 which quickly grew into a strong community of inspiring friends. She encourages people to “Re-Wild!” themselves in this playful yet powerful approach to movement expression. After taking ecstatic dance facilitator training in 2018, Brynnevere’s container-setting style blossomed. Her dances spread awareness of “consent culture”, a paradigm of communication applicable not only to ecstatic dance but to life itself. These guidelines help create a beautiful container for people of all ages to liberate themselves and rediscover their natural ability to shine.
Furthering her education in the healing arts, Brynne graduated massage school in 2021 from Pensacola School of Massage with the vision of beginning her practice later this year. After graduation she went to the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil where co-facilitated a 10-day Yoga Adventure Retreat with Vishva Shanti Retreats and Amazon Emotions. She extended her 10 day trip to two months to spend time with mother earth and revitalize her spirit. She returned from the Jungle with a newfound passion for the planet and reconnecting western culture to nature.
Brynnevere released her first song “Soulfire” to all platforms in 2021 and is in the process of recording her full solo album “Heartsongs for Humanity.”
Brynnevere performs live-looping as a solo act, and also sings in local musical duo “Brynne and Bones”. She looks forward to hosting quarterly Ecstatic Dances in nature in the coming months.
