4th Annual Pensacola Memorial Day Concert
May 27, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The 4th Annual Pensacola Memorial Day concert honors and reflects the bravery and sacrifice of American veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Services. The concert begins at 5 p.m. at the Hunter Amphitheatre at Community Maritime Park behind the Blue Wahoos Stadium. This concert is an excellent way for area residents, families, and friends to end the Memorial Day holiday weekend and have the opportunity to honor the men and women who have served in the military to maintain our freedom.
The Memorial Day program directed by Pensacola Civic Band director, Don Snowden, will entertain the audience with a number of patriotic selections that reflect on the sacrifices throughout our nation’s history
This concert features great music like Ryan Nowlin’s “Let Freedom Ring,” and Samuel Ward’s arraignment of “America the Beautiful.” The Pensacola Civic Band will present a great piece by James Christensen, “Homefront: Musical Memories from WWII.” This outstanding showcase looks back at all the outstanding popular songs that kept up America’s hope throughout the war. It includes: Thanks For The Memories; Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree; I’ll Be Seeing You; It’s Been A Long, Long Time; Bell-Bottom Trousers; White Cliffs Of Dover and Praise God And Pass The Ammunition.
Pearl Harbor Survivor, Frank Emond (who will have just celebrated is 101st birthday) will also be back with us as he conducts the band in Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. Mr Emond will share his story and experience on that fateful day in our nation’s history while the Pensacola Civic Band plays Jay Bocook’s “At Dawn They Slept.”
Concert goers should bring blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the concert. The concert is free and we invite everyone to bring their chairs or blankets for outdoor seating. Several vendors will be onsite with food and beverage available for purchase.
